Primary Purpose
What your role contributes to Scripps:
The Specialty Multi-Media Journalist collects and analyzes complex
information of newsworthy events relying on critical relationships with
local news makers. The Specialty Multi-Media Journalist will be relied
upon primarily for lead stories and/or specialized segments.
Key Activities
The primary processes you conduct in your role
- Develop, create and research news leads and news tips to develop story ideas
- Uncover stories through investigation and research
- Use computer database to research statistics and facts
- Gathers and verifies factual information regarding stories through interview, observation, and research
- Organizes material and writes story according to prescribed editorial style and format standards
- Shoots video and still photos to illustrate stories
- Edits video for multiple platforms
- Appears on multiple platforms when conducting taped interview or narration
- Gives live reports from site of event or mobile broadcast unit
- Write and produce quality content for multiple media platforms
- Work cooperatively with photographer assigned to story, if one is assigned
- Assist producer in preparing newscast
- Assist online staff in preparing for multi-media content
- Report, write, capture visual content, edit and produce stories for multiple platforms on deadline, such as Internet and digital channels
- BS/BA in related discipline.
- Generally 5-8 years of experience in related field. Certification is required in some areas.
- Seasoned professional contributor with responsibility for an advanced area of work in the professional field.
- May be responsible for entire projects or functions having modest scope/impact or portions of projects
having considerable scope/impact.
- Serves in a lead role in certain departments or functions where general guidance and training of less
experienced professional and/or support personnel are needed.
- Performs advanced areas of work for the professional field.
- Identifies key barriers/core problems and applies problem-solving skills in order to
deal creatively with complex situations. Troubleshoots and resolves
complex problems.
- Operates with considerable latitude. Independently
performs assignments with instruction limited to results expected.
Determines and develops approach to solutions.
- Receives technical guidance only on unusual or complex problems or issues.
- May oversee the completion of projects or assignments, including planning, assigning, monitoring and reviewing progress and accuracy of work, evaluating results, etc.
- Contributes to employees' professional development, but
does not have hiring or firing authority.
- Possesses and applies comprehensive knowledge of particular field of specialization to the completion of complex assignments. Advanced knowledge of organization's technologies and practices.
